Manchester model Matt Peacock has opened up about why losing his\nhair made him think he\u2019d also lose his career and the pressure on people in the\nspotlight to maintain their looks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The father-of-one, who has been the face and body of leading\nglobal brands, feared his receding hairline would be the end of his livelihood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matt, 37,\nhas spent two decades as the face of leading brands including Land Rover, Gigs\nEyewear and wine firm Laithwaites as well as a string of television\nappearances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But losing his locks left him paranoid on shoots that a gust of\nwind or having to get his hair wet would expose his secret and spell the end of\nhis career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dad-of-one opted for a hair transplant<\/a> and is now opening up on why he went under the knife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said: \u201cLosing my hair had been knocking my confidence for a\nfew years and it was really affecting my day-to-day life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI felt so much pressure to look good and keep the modelling\njobs coming in to pay my bills and keep a roof over my family\u2019s head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSocial media can be a big problem too, with such an expectation\nof perfection. We live in such an image-obsessed world.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added: “You wouldn\u2019t be able to tell from my social\nmedia photos that I was worrying so much about my hair thinning because you\nonly ever see the good side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI would be watching television and see a guy with great hair\nand I would feel jealous, thinking ‘why can\u2019t my hair look like that?’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe final straw for me was a shoot for a suit brand where I was\nasked to put my hair in a side parting and I couldn\u2019t because it was so thin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI went for a hair transplant and it has truly changed my life.<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“I don\u2019t need to worry about a gust of wind or getting my\nhair wet anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matt, who works with the Boss Model Management group, found love\nwith fellow model wife Rachael, who he wed in 2016, and the pair welcomed\ndaughter Lily in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matt spent years covering up with angles on social media photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He feared\na balding pate would mean the phone would stop ringing with modelling gigs\nuntil he decided .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matt underwent Follicular Unit Extraction<\/a> (FUE) surgery, where clusters of up to five hairs in one unit are removed from a part of the hairline that is healthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiny slits are then made in the graft area and the units are\ncarefully implanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operation can take up to 8 hours and involve around 3,500\nindividual grafts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matt added: \u201cIn the modelling world, if you can get to my age\nwith a full head of hair then you\u2019re probably home and dry and you can expect\nthe work to keep coming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut many fellas who are losing their hair either give up their\ncareer in front of the camera or else find there isn\u2019t enough work to sustain\nthem full-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI had worked so hard to build my portfolio and my reputation\nthat I wasn\u2019t going to let thinning hair be the end of my career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI feel sorry for guys in their twenties who\nare losing their hair and all they see is perfection on social media, but it\u2019s\nreally not the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cMen\ngive each other stick about hair loss but it\u2019s something we all try desperately\nto avoid<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I know lots of guys in the acting world\nwho use hair fibre spray to mask any balding spots.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matt is so happy with the results he’s started\nwearing his hair longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
